Dr. Tarali Kalita CV    Vidwan Profile

About

Research Interest and Most significant research contribution:

Her research interest is mainly concerned with the characterization of sericigenous insects  in North East India.  She has also started working on entomphagy, their biochemical investigation and implications for food security. Another area of her research interest is the human reproductive biology.

Dr. Kalita is awarded  PhD degree on the  topic "Morphological and genetic characterization of wild and cultivated races of Antheraea assamensis." The study has screened out some of the population of Antheraea assamensis  having good economic characters. The study also revealed the genetic distance between the different parent populations. On the basis of that the she recommended some of the combinations between cultured and wild stocks for cross breeding programme to increase the muga raw silk production. The trial of cross breed formation of Antheraea assamensis is on process.

Dr. Kalita and her team also carried out a detail study on entomophagy in Bodoland Territorial Council, Assam  and their nutritional potential. She has also completed the biochemical evaluational of six indigenous rice variety of Assam.
